Facial Expressions

Procreate came in very handy with this piece as it allowed me to draw one head and duplicate it to create a template for drawing expressions. I sketched out the initial shape and then inked over it to create 12 blank faces for development.

I used Chris Hart’s Cartoon Cool book to research a variety of facial expressions and how to apply them and used a simplified style to draw the features of the face onto the template.

Overall I’m happy with the outcome and feel it would be a good reference sheet when developing animations for games as it provides a clear and easy to understand basis for movement and expression.

Furthermore, I used this piece to develop my shading technique and chose a thick tapered Syrup brush from Procreate to add some darker tones to each of the faces.
